Het Studio Programma heeft 3 programmalijnen: Reading Room of the future, (Building) an Urban Union en a Station for Resources. De programmering speelt in op actuele vraagstukken die leven in de Afrikaanderwijk en de omliggende wijken, zoals gezondheid en welzijn, gentrificatie, niet-institutionele kennis, inclusie en participatie, vertrouwen en gemeenschapszin, klimaatbestendigheid, ecologische duurzaamheid en verantwoordelijkheid ten opzichte van de natuurlijke omgeving. De locaties liggen op loopafstand van elkaar: het Grondstoffenstation, de Social Practice Library en de Cultuur&Campus Putselaan zelf (vanaf september 2025).
In alle activiteiten staat het leren en het integreren van lokale kennis centraal: het uitwisselen en delen van kennis vormt de basis. De leden van de coöperatie, experts, studenten en bewoners gaan met elkaar in gesprek en aan het werk. We werken in het Studio Programma expliciet samen met het netwerk van mensen en collectieven uit de buurt en verbinden hen met de andere partners die betrokken zijn bij de Cultuur&Campus Putselaan en hun doelgroepen.
Station for Resources #05 - Unearthing Tweebosbuurt: An interactive walkshop with Tânia A. Cardoso and Mustapha Eaisaouiyen
Join illustrator and urban researcher Tânia A. Cardoso and resident and activist Mustapha Eaisaouiyen on an interactive drawing workshop and tour! Through walking, observing, listening, and drawing in situ, participants are invited to discover how illustration can become a tool for urban storytelling, communication, and collective imagination. No drawing experience is needed, materials are provided.
We start at 16h at the Grondstoffenstation with a short introduction where Tânia will briefly explain the method and distribute materials to the participants. Then Tânia and Mustapha will take us on a ‘walkshop’ through the Tweebosbuurt. We will be back at the Grondstoffenstation to enjoy some drinks and snacks, and shortly review our sketches. Followed at 18h by an open-air class by Tânia where she will explain her work and method in more detail until 18.30. We will wrap up with a half-hour borrel.

Once a vibrant part of Afrikaanderwijk, the Tweebosbuurt now stands largely erased. Former resident and activist Mustapha Eaisaouiyen guides participants through this transformed neighbourhood and the housing policies that reshaped it, sharing stories of resistance, resilience, and the right to stay. Alongside this, Tânia A. Cardoso introduces illustration as a visual form of urban storytelling, opening up new ways to analyse urban issues, raise awareness, and uncover perspectives between urban studies and drawing practice.

A Station for Resources #04: Re-positioning Urban Research

Het maken van ‘impact’ is populair in het hedendaagse hoger onderwijs. Door onderzoekers en studenten los te laten op ‘lokale problemen’ streven ze naar maatschappelijke participatie van academisch onderzoek. In Rotterdam richt de missie van de Erasmus Universiteit; ‘creating a positive societal impact’ zich vaak op Rotterdam Zuid.
Tijdens deze Open Air Class zullen we reflecteren en verslag doen van de kritische interventies van het ‘non-project’ Re-position. Re-position brengt leden van de Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie en onderzoekers van de universiteit samen en weerspiegelt op creatieve wijze wetenschappelijke procedures, zoals peer review, valideren en ethische commissies, om zo de machtsverhoudingen tussen universiteiten en lokale gemeenschappen ter discussie te stellen en opnieuw vorm te geven.
Deze Open-Air class bij het Grondstoffenstation wordt georganiseerd tijdens de After Summer School van Het Nieuwe Instituut. De sessie maakt deel uit van het Campus Studio-programma Samen leren voor een gedeelde en rechtvaardige stad, samengesteld door de Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie voor de Cultuur&Campus Putselaan.
Met Waste Simmers drinks van Kate Price. De klas wordt afgesloten met een lunch, bereid door Rita Baldé (The Migrant Kitchen). The Migrant Kitchen wil het voedsel en de ingrediënten uit de diaspora worden en hun verschillende onderlinge verbanden, bestuderen en eren. Dit onderzoeksproject verbindt verschillende culturen, maar richt zich in het bijzonder op de Afrikaanse keuken in de Portugeestalige landen (Angola, Kaapverdië, Mozambique, Guinee-Bissau en São Tomé en Príncipe), als basis voor het begrip van de historische band met de rest van de wereld.
Dit project is ontwikkeld door Rita Baldé, een Portugees /Guinese multidisciplinaire kunstenaar gevestigd in Rotterdam. Hun werk bevindt zich op het snijvlak van verschillende beeldende kunsten en ontwerppraktijken, met als doel discussies op gang te brengen en een gemeenschap op te bouwen.
A Station for Resources #03: In the Wake of the Lost Hangout
a dialogue on techno-utopias and smart city imaginaries

What is identified as noise, and for whom? How does its regulation affect access to public life? The Mosquito device, whose high-pitched tone predominantly affects people under 25, has been installed around the city by the Rotterdam municipality and various individuals or corporations. Its aim is to deter young people from loitering and making noise in public space as a response to complaints of disturbed residents who feel deprived of sleep and quietude in their homes.
Artist and architect Angeliki Diakrousi is inviting you to gather and hang-out at the Grondstoffenstation for a dialogue on the techno-utopias and smart city imaginaries envisioned in Rotterdam. Starting from the case of the Mosquito installations, we will share our thoughts and experiences and imagine further what a technological collective future could look like in a socially meaningful way. She will present her video work 'In the Wake of the Lost Hangout' that questions how technological applications contribute to the displacement of people and to the re-writing of ways of inhabiting. The video (created in collaboration with Geo Barcan) is exhibited at Brutus at the Wild Summer of Art, opening on 11 July brutus.nl. The work is made possible by a financial contribution from CBK Rotterdam.
In addition, lecturer and researcher Shivano Raghoenathsingh will introduce us to his research on the ‘policing insect’ and its impact on the sense of belonging amongst Rotterdam’s youth.
Angeliki Diakrousi is an artist-designer and researcher with a background in architecture. Her work examines spatial politics around architecture and technology and she is involved in collective research on imagining computational infrastructures otherwise. She is a former member of Varia (vvvvvvaria.org, has taught at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and has done research for The Institute for Technology in the Public Interest in Brussels. In 2022-2023 she presented her work 'Hunting Mosquitos' at TENT Rotterdam in the group exhibition 'There is no party so noisy as the one you’re not invited to' curated by Linnea Semmerling. Shivano Raghoenathsingh is a lecturer in the Bachelor's program of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at Utrecht University. He has conducted research for the University of Amsterdam, De Volkskrant, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and Erasmus University, focusing on themes such as gentrification, urban allochtone youth, postcolonial studies, plural policing, racialization, and migration.

Talk by Davarian Baldwin
We’re excited to have professor and urbanist Davarian Baldwin as our second guest speaker at ‘A station for Resources’, a series of open-air classes taking place at the Grondstoffenstation (Afrikaanderplein 1, Rotterdam), part of the Studio Programme from the Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie for Cultuur&Campus Putselaan. Davarian Baldwin is an internationally recognized urbanist, historian, and public advocate. He is professor and Founding Director of the Smart Cities Research Lab at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Baldwin is the author of ‘In the Shadow of the ‘Ivory Tower: How Universities Are Plundering Our Cities’ and served as the consultant and text author for ‘The World of the Harlem Renaissance: A Jigsaw Puzzle’.
The afternoon will be moderated by Hind Serkouh. She joins to guide the conversation with Davarian, situating his work within the context of local urban transformations and opening up space for public dialogue. Hind is a Rotterdam-based researcher obsessed with surveillance, privacy, (public) security, and how these notions are constructed in the urban environment.

Woensdag 16 april start het Studio Programma Collectief leren voor een gedeelde en rechtvaardige stad van de Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie voor de Cultuur & Campus Putselaan met een openbare lezing over de totstandkoming van het Grondstoffenstation door Jan Jongert, architect en oprichter Superuse Studios.

Het studio programma wordt geproduceerd/samengesteld door de Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie voor de Cultuur & Campus Putselaan en loopt van april tot december 2025. Een van de drie programmalijnen van het Studio Programma is A Station for Resources: een serie openbare klassen, lezingen en workshops in en op het Grondstoffenstation.
Jan Jongert zal vertellen over o.a. de ontwikkeling van het ontwerp van het Grondstoffenstation op het Afrikaanderplein. Superuse Studios ontwierp en bouwde samen met de Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie het Grondstoffenstation dat met de buurt werkt aan de creatie van een sociale en duurzame lokale circulaire economie. Het station ligt aan de Afrikaandermarkt en is volledig gebouwd van gerecyclede en duurzame materialen. In 2024 won het de Rotterdamse Architectuurprijs. Superuse werkt met een circulaire ontwerpfilosofie, waarbij ze uitgaan van de bestaande omgeving. Kom luisteren en kijken naar hoe dit collectieve ontwikkelingsproces werkt!
Daarna trakteert kunstenaar, tuinier en fervent composteerder Kate Price het publiek op siropen en versnaperingen gemaakt van overgebleven groente en fruit van de Afrikaandermarkt. In haar project Waste Simmers verkent ze samen met het Grondstoffenstation en andere makers de mogelijkheden voor hergebruik van verzamelde (voedsel)resten van de markt.
