When the Campus Comes to the Community: Problems and Possibilities.

Talk by Davarian Baldwin

We’re excited to have professor and urbanist Davarian Baldwin as our second guest speaker at ‘A station for Resources’, a series of open-air classes taking place at the Grondstoffenstation (Afrikaanderplein 1, Rotterdam), part of the Studio Programme from the Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie for Cultuur&Campus Putselaan. Entrance free, no registration required.

Davarian Baldwin is an internationally recognized urbanist, historian, and public advocate. He is professor and Founding Director of the Smart Cities Research Lab at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Baldwin is the author of ‘In the Shadow of the ‘Ivory Tower: How Universities Are Plundering Our Cities’ and served as the consultant and text author for ‘The World of the Harlem Renaissance: A Jigsaw Puzzle’.

The afternoon will be moderated by Hind Serkouh. She joins to guide the conversation with Davarian, situating his work within the context of local urban transformations and opening up space for public dialogue. Hind is a Rotterdam-based researcher obsessed with surveillance, privacy, (public) security, and how these notions are constructed in the urban environment.

The Studio Programme ‘Collective Learning for a Shared and Just City’ is developed by the
Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie for Cultuur&Campus Putselaan and runs from April to December 2025. All activities are free and open to the public.
