Care for Labour, Film#2 You Can't Automate Me
'Social Harbour, Care for Labour' is een filmprogramma samengesteld door iLiana Fokianaki, voor het Gemaal.
In de komende maanden zullen we verschillende vertoningen hebben uit Fokianaki's filmserie: Care for Labour. Over de afbraak van de zorg in al zijn facetten door bezuiniging en het vervangen van professionele zorg door de alom gepromote "zelfzorg". De filmreeks biedt inspirerende verhalen van verzet, collectieve actie, activisme en de strijd voor sociale rechtvaardigheid.
Op maandag 1 november zullen wij de tweede film uit de serie vertonen: 'You Can't Automate Me' van Katarina Jazbec. Voordat containerschepen de haven verlaten, maken sjorders de containers met zware stalen stangen vast. Zij zijn de laatsten in de havens die zulk gevaarlijk werk verrichten. In een even fysieke filmtaal vertellen hun lichamen ieder een eigen verhaal, van treuren om een verongelukte collega tot het leven in beweging houden.
Na de film gaan we met elkaar in discussie en kunnen we vragen stellen aan Katarina. Eten zal verzorgd worden door de Wijkkeuken van Zuid! Reserveer een plekje via: www.eventbrite.co.uk

'Care for Labour' is a film program curated by iLiana Fokianaki for the Gemaal. In the coming months we will have several screenings from Fokianaki's film series: Care for Labour, Harboring the Social.
The diminishing of care in all facets of human life has been one of the major effects of neoliberal austerity policies. These last decades neoliberalism has capitalized on the individualist notion of care, widely promoted as “self-care”. We are tasked with the care of our overworked bodies, but are less and less interested in the wellbeing of bodies that are outside of the immediate realm of our family, class, working environment, neighbourhood, city, country. Aiming for the futures of care-full practice, we wish to act on the possibilities enabled by the voices that speak from legacies of countless forms of collective care: healers, care workers, mothers, social workers, educators, cultural workers, workers on the first line. For this film series we will be looking at different paradigms of care enacted in various fields of labour, offering inspiring stories of resistance, collective action, activism and the fight for social justice.
The second film in the series, 'You Can't Automate Me' by Katarina Jazbec, will be screened on Monday, November 1st.
Before container ships leave port, lashers secure the containers using heavy metal bars. They are the last port workers to do such dangerous jobs. In an equally physical cinematic style, each body tells its own story: from grieving for a colleague who died on the job to just keeping going.
18:30-21:30, Screening (EN subtitles), followed by a discussion and Q&A with Katarina. The Kitchen will cook a diner. Free entrance, dinner, Welcome!
