Care for Labour, Film#1 TIED
'Social Harbour, Care for Labour' is een filmprogramma samengesteld door iLiana Fokianaki, voor het Gemaal.
In de komende maanden zullen we verschillende screenings hebben uit Fokianaki's filmserie: Care for Labour.
De afname van zorg in alle facetten van het menselijk leven is een van de belangrijkste effecten van het neoliberale bezuinigingsbeleid, wat nog duidelijker zichtbaar werd tijdens de wereldwijde pandemie van Sars-Covid19. De laatste decennia heeft het neoliberalisme munt geslagen uit de individualistische opvatting van zorg, alom gepromoot als "zelfzorg", via een miljardenindustrie. We zijn belast met de zorg voor onze overwerkte lichamen, maar zijn steeds minder geïnteresseerd in het welzijn van lichamen die zich buiten het onmiddellijke domein van ons gezin, onze klasse, onze werkomgeving, onze buurt, onze stad, ons land bevinden. In ons streven naar de toekomst van een zorg-volle praktijk, willen we handelen naar de mogelijkheden die mogelijk worden gemaakt door de stemmen die spreken uit de nalatenschap van talloze vormen van collectieve zorg: genezers, hulpverleners, moeders, maatschappelijk werkers, opvoeders, culturele werkers, werkers in de eerste lijn. Voor deze filmreeks, samengesteld door iLiana Fokianaki, getiteld "Care for Labour", kijken we naar verschillende paradigma's van zorg die op verschillende gebieden van de arbeid worden toegepast, en bieden we inspirerende verhalen van verzet, collectieve actie, activisme en de strijd voor sociale rechtvaardigheid.
ILiana Fokianaki (b.1980, Griekenland) is een curator, theoreticus en pedagoog, gevestigd in Athene en
Rotterdam. Haar onderzoek richt zich op machtsformaties en hoe deze zich manifesteren onder invloed van geopolitiek, nationale identiteit en culturele en antropologische geschiedenissen.
De eerste film uit de serie wordt gescreend op zondag 3 oktober. We zullen dan de film TIED van Tassos Morfis vertonen.
Een land bijna bankroet. Een maritiem bedrijf in financieel verval. 320 zeelieden die al maanden onbetaald zijn. TIED legt de strijd vast van onbetaalde zeelieden van de Lesvos Scheepvaartmaatschappij in 2015. Met velen opgesloten in de schepen van het bedrijf in Drapetsona en weg van de schijnwerpers, legt de camera hun hopeloze pogingen vast om hun loon te ontvangen gedurende 7 maanden tijdens de meest kritieke tijden in de moderne geschiedenis van Griekenland. Van de dokken van Drapetsona in Piraeus tot het kantoor van de premier in het centrum van Athene, TIED is het verhaal van een onbekende moderne arbeidsstrijd uit het diepste van de Griekse maritieme industrie.
Na de film engels ondertiteld is gaan we met elkaar in discussie (NL/EN) en kunnen we vragen stellen aan Tassos, die met een live verbinding vanuit Griekenland aan het gesprek deel zal nemen!

The diminishing of care in all facets of human life has been one of the major effects of neoliberal austerity policies, that was made even more visible during the global pandemic of Sars-Covid19.These last decades neoliberalism has capitalized on the individualist notion of care, widely promoted as “self-care,” through an industry with billions in revenues. We are tasked with the care of our overworked bodies, but are less and less interested in the wellbeing of bodies that are outside of the immediate realm of our family, class, working environment, neighbourhood, city, country. Aiming for the futures of care-full practice, we wish to act on the possibilities enabled by the voices that speak from legacies of countless forms of collective care: healers, care workers, mothers, social workers, educators, cultural workers, workers on the first line. For this film series, curated by iLiana Fokianaki, entitled “Care for Labour”, we will be looking at different paradigms of care enacted in various fields of labour, offering inspiring stories of resistance, collective action, activism and the fight for social justice.
The first film in the series, TIED by Tassos Morfis, will be screened on Sunday, October 3.

A country near bankruptcy. A maritime company in financial collapse. 320 seamen unpaid for months. TIED captures the struggle of unpaid seamen of the Lesvos Shipping Company in 2015. With many trapped in the company's vessels in Drapetsona and away from the spotlight, the camera captures their hopeless efforts to receive their wages for 7 months during the most critical times in Greece’s modern history. From the docks of Drapetsona in Piraeus to the Prime Minister’s office downtown Athens, TIED is the story of an unknown modern labor struggle from the innermost depths of the Greek maritime industry.
